A coral reef borders most of the island, except in areas where the bays exist which provides access to small rivers and streams that run from the hills to the Pacific Ocean and the Philippine Sea.
Up to 25% of marine species depend on coral reefs, one of the most fundamental animals of the ocean. This entity is vital for life in the oceans, however, they are fragile ecosystems and, in recent years, very threatened.
You could say that coral reefs are a kind of oasis of the oceans. In them live hundreds live from different species, hosting up to 25% of the total biodiversity of the planet. In them, its inhabitants find a place to shelter from predators, to feed themselves, to reproduce and to lay their eggs. For the human being, coral reefs are very necessary since they provide a perfect habitat for the species that we then fish, so not taking care of the reefs would not be very smart on our part.
While corals may look like rocks and share several characteristics of plants, they are actually animals. To be exact, they are aquatic marine invertebrates (known as polyps) that live in the warm, shallow waters of clear coastal waters around the world.
